Our Shift Leaders deputise for the Store Manager in their absence. You will take accountability for everything that happens in store when you are running shifts as the Duty Manager. You will need to supervise staff and the store to ensure a safe and legal environment for the local community to use. Our shift leaders are out on the shop floor, working alongside colleagues, managing day to day tasks and ensuring the store is operating effectively. By delegating tasks to your team, you will ensure that the store is ready for handover at the end of your shift.
This is a great entry level supervisory role. If you have the ambition to progress, we have lots of opportunities within our stores and central support teams. We aim to recruit most, if not all, of our Store Managers from Shift Leaders via our excellent internal Store Manager Training Programme where you spend 3-6 months in lots of our stores, covering Store Manager holidays, having your own store (with a buddy Store Manager) and visiting a range of our stores, from smaller local stores to our flagship stores in order to understand how all of our stores operate. On completion of the internal Store Manager Training Programme, you will be appointed into a store as the Acting Store Manager for 6-12 months where you’ll take full responsibility for the store, have regular check-ins with your Area Manager to support you and help you to demonstrate that you can successfully run a store. Once all required tasks are completed, you’ll be permanently appointed to a store (we aim for this to be the store you did your Store Manager trial in).
Typically, our shift leaders work AM and PM shifts:
AM (Opening) - 6am-3pm
PM (Closing) - 2pm-11pm
Mid Shifts - utilised more in busier stores to provide extra management support
During these times, you will take accountability for the store as the Duty Manager, often being the only Manager on site. Therefore, you will need to be a fast and logical thinker and have a hardworking personality.
You may be expected to perform a range of different tasks within this role, from working stock to conducting HR tasks. You will be expected to supervise our Customer Assistants and conduct HR related tasks in the absence (or at the request of) your Store Manager.
You will be expected to perform other reasonable tasks given by your Store Manager, Area Manager or the Central Support Team.
